It was a rainy day in Lancaster, California. A bit unusual for the desert, but it is, after all, the rainy season, and this winter has been rainier than most. The date: February 19, 2005.
I drove up 10th Street West, past the offices of Southern California Edison. If you go to their website, you can read about how environmentally friendly SCE is. There, they tout such virtues as "We look for ways to continuously improve our environmental performance" and "We seek to prevent or reduce the environmental impacts of producing and distributing electricity"
So imagine my surprise, as I peered through the pouring rain, and saw their lawn sprinklers were on!
