A conic section is the intersection of a plane with a cone. can be defined: as the locus of all points P, such that the ratio of the distance from P to a fixed point (the focus), to the distance from P to a fixed line (the directrix), is constant. The value of this constant is known as the eccentricity, e.

In the Conic Sections page, we will explore the general form of a conic section as well as the types of conic section: ellipse, hyperbola, and parabola.

This page tells you how to answer What Type of Conic? from the form of its equation.

Eq of Circle given 3 points explains how to find the equation of a circle if the only thing you know about the circle is three points it passes through.
